Q&A with Ali Dell’Annunziata, Principal Interior Designer and Practice Manager at ArchCollab
This week we’re talking all things interiors, whilst also taking a look into the behind the scenes workings of the office. Ali brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Interior Design team and on top of this, Ali’s our Practice Manager and keeps the office humming along like a well-oiled machine.
What’s your role at ArchCollab, and what does it involve?
I am the Principal Interior Designer and Practice Manager. As the titles suggest my role within in practice is quite varied. Not only do I oversee the Interior Design but I manage the day to day running of the office.
What is the first thing you do when you sit down to work?
I usually sneak in late and try to look like I have been sitting quietly at my desk since 8.30am. This tactic is always unsuccessful so it is straight into emails and organising myself for the day.
Coffee comes in later in the morning along with surreptitiously changing Dario’s playlist on the office Sonos.
What are you passionate about? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
I am extremely passionate about my family and making the most of every day.
What is your favorite city in the world for its architecture/design and why?
My favourite city in the world for architecture is Abu Dhabi. This city is an architects delight and I just love the design diversity that you see. From the original star pattern design and ‘satellite’ boarding gates of the original airport terminal, to the ridiculous mimicry shown in the truly hideous Fairmont Marina Mall , the extravagant excess of the Grand Mosque, the ridiculousness of ‘The Coin’ and finally the piece de resistance of Nouvel’s Louvre. All of it breathtaking and consuming.
What elements do you feel are important in architecture/design?
To listen carefully to your Client. To hear all they have to say about what they want and need.
Okay, let’s wrap it up with some quick-fire, stereotypical, Q’s

T-shirt or Collared Shirt? As above
Boots or Sneakers? Depends on the outfit, but currently I am loving boots.
Glasses or Contacts? Contacts – always
Citroen or Peugeot? Fiat
Jeans or Chinos? Dress
