Q&A with Elly Tite, Architectural Graduate at ArchCollab
It’s a new year and we’re back to continue with our staff Q&As. This week we caught up with Elly, one of our talented Architectural Graduates.
What’s your role at ArchCollab, and what does it involve?
I’m an architectural graduate so my role primarily involves at lot of design and documentation work. I’ll also assist the architects with contract admin and project management bits and pieces when I can to get hands on experience with those aspects of the job.
What is the first thing you do when you sit down to work?
I’ll eat breakfast at work so that’s always the first thing; then I’ll put the office playlist on; then I’ll sit down and start work. Music is a must have
What are you passionate about? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Architecture is fundamentally creative, which is what I love about the profession. This, combined with the necessary functional aspects gives us the ability to positively affect people’s surroundings, moods, behaviours; and ultimately their day to day lives. That responsibility motivates me. Three snoozes of the morning alarm doesn’t hurt either.
What is your favorite city in the world for its architecture/design and why?
I haven’t been traveling as much as I’d like but I’d have to say Singapore. The blend of subtropical, cultural and technological influences is quite unique.
What elements do you feel are important in architecture/design?
The feel of a space is just as important as the function, so creating architecture which achieves both is the most important factor. It doesn’t have to be flashy or showy, but a design which quietly and positively impacts its users is what good architecture is all about in my mind.
Okay, let’s wrap it up with some quick-fire, stereotypical, architect Q’s
