Q&A with Josh Adams, Architectural Graduate at ArchCollab
School’s out for Josh. After recently completing his Masters of Architecture, he’s finally had a chance to sit down to talk and give us an insight into his work and what his days are all about.
What’s your role at ArchCollab, and what does it involve?
I’m an Architectural Graduate so I’m currently at an early point in my career. My role is currently stretched across several tasks and responsibilities, predominantly assisting our architects in the delivery of our projects. I’m bouncing around concept design, through to the documentation delivery of projects – meanwhile soaking up experience along the way. I’m also part of the marketing team for the company, so I run our social media accounts, website and generate the marketing material.
What is the first thing you do when you sit down to work?
I’m extremely particular, so naturally I can’t focus and start work until my workspace is clean and tidy. After cleaning my desk, 2nd thing is to kick the boots off and go make a coffee. Then we’re ready to roll.
What are you passionate about? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My phone alarm usually does the job – or my partner waking me up telling me that my alarm is too loud. I guess I’m passionate about great design in general. The positive impact and opportunity to inspire as designers and the ability to bring joy to people via our designs is a rewarding experience.
What is your favorite city in the world for its architecture/design and why?
Tokyo. From the architecture through to the food and culture, I’m incredibly fascinated by it all.
What elements do you feel are important in architecture/design?
Everything. If what you’re designing can be experienced by the user’s senses, it can have an impact on them, positive or negative. Ultimately, everything you design holds a form of importance.
