Q&A with Sarah Rutley, Interior Design Graduate at ArchCollab

It’s time we switch from architecture to interior design. This week we’re catching up with Sarah, one of the members within our fabulous interior design team. Sarah’s been with us just over a year and over that time, has established herself as an integral part of the team.

What’s your role at ArchCollab, and what does it involve?
As a fresh Interior Design Graduate, my roll moves around anywhere between concept development to product research to documentation and anything else that needs to be picked up around the office. As the interior design capabilities of the office grows, I hope to lend as much assistance as I can as well as build my own abilities along the way.

What is the first thing you do when you sit down to work?
These days the first thing usually ends up being putting the coffee on for the office, and then its straight into my to-do list, otherwise I’m all over the place.

What are you passionate about? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My dog is awake and ready to go as soon as the sun comes up and then its straight to the dog park. But my energy for the day comes from a desire to do something with the creativity in me and use it to make a difference, whether that’s on a macro or micro level.

What is your favorite city in the world for its architecture/design and why?
Barcelona. The perfect fusion between the old and the new. It’s a place that really embraces its history but also moves forward. I just can’t go past the wacky work of Antoni Gaudi.

What elements do you feel are important in architecture/design?
Designing to last and designing for future is what I think is most important. And to achieve this, no design principle can be placed above the rest, the all intermingle to influence the user and the environment.

Okay, let’s wrap it up with some quick-fire, stereotypical, design Q’s

Skivvy, Jacket or Jumper? Jumper.
T-shirt or Collared Shirt? T-shirt.Usually with some kind of logo or band.
Boots or Sneakers? Boots.
Glasses or Contacts? 20/20 vision baby.
Citroen or Peugeot? Definitely neither.
Jeans or Chinos? Jeans.
